Dear parents, students and staff,
I hope you have all had a pleasant and relaxing vacation. I am looking forward to seeing you all again as the new school year commences. This year it is 20 years since the school first opened and it is good to know that the vision and mission of the school has remained constant. We aim to serve the Al Jahra Community by providing an education, which will equip our students to take their place at the forefront not only of the local community but also the global one. As our school motto says, we are preparing our children to be the “leaders of tomorrow”.
I am therefore pleased that our efforts have been recognized by the International Baccalaureate Organization at both primary (PYP) and middle years (MYP) levels and we are authorized for a further 4 years. We are also proud of the fact that only one other school in Kuwait so far has been authorized at both levels.
The beginning of every school year brings with it changes and this year is no exception. Ms Muriel Cole Webber, who joined us last year, will take over the role of principal of both middle and high schools. In primary, Mr. Matthew Connell is the new primary principal and Mr. Dan Stratford is the new PYP coordinator. I wish them every success in their new roles.
In addition, we have appointed Mr. Norman Dennis as Head of Pastoral Care. His role will be to oversee the counseling department and all areas concerning student wellbeing. Ms Amna Latif, who has been appointed as Student Wellbeing Supervisor for Primary, will work closely with him and the counselors. I am sure that these additions will further improve student services.
During the holidays we have also made some changes to the facilities. We have added shading to one of the playgrounds and we are in the process of building a Technology Innovation Center on the third floor. This will enable us to expand and enhance our current design programme to include initially an area for robotics and a virtual reality suite, with space to add to the programme and keep us on the “cutting edge” when it comes to technology.
Finally, I would like to welcome all those who are joining us for the first time, (students and their families and teachers) as well as those who are returning. Together I am confident that we will have another good year!
God bless KBS and God bless Kuwait!
